Why Make Custom Ringtones?

Default ringtones are boring. When your phone rings in a crowd, everyone checks their pocket. Custom ringtones let you express your personality and instantly know when YOUR phone is ringing.

The best part? You don't need any software or technical skills. Our free online editor lets you create ringtones right in your browser.

What You'll Need

  • A song file (MP3, WAV, OGG, or M4A)
  • A web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
  • About 2 minutes of your time

Step 1: Choose Your Song

Pick the song you want as your ringtone. Think about which part of the song is most recognizable — usually the chorus or a catchy intro works best.

Pro tip: Ringtones work best when they're 20-40 seconds long. iPhone has a maximum of 40 seconds for ringtones and 30 seconds for text tones.

Step 2: Upload to Our Editor

Go to our Online Editor and upload your song file. You can either:

  • Drag and drop the file onto the upload area
  • Click the upload area to browse your files

The editor supports MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, and many more formats. Your file is processed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.

Step 3: Select the Perfect Section

Once your audio loads, you'll see a waveform visualization. Use the selection handles to choose exactly which part of the song you want.

Tips for selecting the best section:

  • Start with a strong beat — avoid starting in the middle of a quiet section
  • End cleanly — try to end at a natural pause or the end of a phrase
  • Keep it 20-40 seconds — long enough to be recognizable, short enough to not be annoying

Step 4: Add Effects (Optional)

Make your ringtone sound even better with built-in effects:

  • Fade In — gradually increase volume at the start for a smooth entrance
  • Fade Out — gradually decrease volume at the end to avoid abrupt cuts
  • Volume Adjustment — make sure your ringtone is loud enough to hear

Step 5: Export Your Ringtone

Click the export button and choose your format:

  • MP3 — works for Android devices and general use
  • WAV — higher quality, works for all devices

Your ringtone downloads instantly to your device.

Setting Your Ringtone

On Android

  1. Copy the file to your phone's Ringtones folder
  2. Go to Settings → Sound → Phone Ringtone

  2. Open iTunes (Windows) or Finder (Mac)
  3. Rename your .mp3 file to .m4r
